Summer Sounds

Well, it's finally summer. The warm weather is here (and better not be leaving any time soon), the light and airy clothes can finally be dusted off, and most importantly the new music inspiration begins. Summer is when I find the BEST music. There are so many songs in my iTunes that are special to me because I spent my summer lounging in the sun with them on repeat. And, for some reason, folk and bluegrass sound a million times better in this season.

I have a long list of albums I plan on buying this summer. But for now, here is my inspiration for the beginning of summer 2012....

This song is going to be the song that I listen to in the dead of winter to remember what summer feels like. It will remind me of waking up to warm sunshine. It will remind me of drinking wine on the patio. It will remind me of late night drives with the windows down. Most of all, it will remind me of my wonderful husband. I fell in love with the song the first time I heard Truman playing it on the guitar.

Cheers to a lovely season,
J.

Wedding Details

I don't have all of the wedding pictures yet, but I have a few pictures that capture the details of the wedding. We put a lot of time and energy into them to make it a special day!

Romp 2011

Let's get real here.
I have no money. We have no money. (By "no" I mean no money for luxuries.)
We're newlyweds. We've been completely cut off of any support from ma and pa (and rightly so) and it's been a challenge. We're learning to live off our means and praise God for what He has given us.
BUTTTTTTTT
There is this bluegrass festival in Kentucky that I just HAVE to see! To me, music isn't a luxury it's a necessity! I can't breathe without the sweet sounds of bluegrass floating in the air. I'm pretty sure it's the forgotten 11th Commandment, in fact. Thou shalt not live without good music.

I came across this festival when I was looking up tour dates for Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers. I've never been to Kentucky but I've always wanted to visit (mainly because of my obsession with Elizabethtown). I'm really trying to convince Truman to say yes to this. Tickets are very reasonable and we get to camp for free. I can't imagine anything better than warm air, sleeping outside, and listening to blue grass all day. We have to go!
Some of my favorites will be there...

Office Inspiration

I have been putting off decorating the apartment because I'm worried I won't find what I'm looking for. But I have the time to do it so I'm going to tackle this head on. So I don't get overwhelmed, I decided to break it down into sections: office, bedroom, living room, bathroom, hallway closet. Oh boy.

Starting with the "office" since it's serving as a spot for junk right now. Technically we don't have an office. Our desk just sits in our room. I'd like to still create a somewhat cozy place for us to get work done especially when I get this wedding blog up and running. I took an old white desk from my old house and painted it gray since we are sticking with neutral colors. To dress it up, I changed the handles to fancier ones from Anthropologie. It was amazing how a little detail like hardware could change the look of it!

The only thing we have so far for the desk is a vintage recipe box that I turned into a card holder. We had tons of leftover custom notecards from the wedding that I know we will have use for.

I am going to try and attempt this to hang above the desk. Hobby Lobby has frames exactly like that, but I have no idea where to find the chicken wire...or how to attach it for that matter. Wish me luck! Pictures if I'm successful...

Fruit Tart

Since I was so adventurous with the cinnamon rolls, I decided to try making my very first fruit tart. I don't feel comfortable working with dough, so I was nervous to see the outcome. Thankfully the dessert was edible! The crust wasn't perfect but I'd say it's pretty good for a first try!
The boys ate the entire thing in about 15 minutes.
